An industrial data management system is designed to handle, process, and secure industrial data across various operational and enterprise applications. It provides a structured approach to managing the vast amounts of data generated by industrial IoT (IIoT), SCADA, and MES systems. In our own work, we refer to this as an Industrial Data Platform as it consists of a more broader set of features (see below).
An Industrial Data Management System (or Data Platform) solution support data ingestion, real-time analytics, and long-term data storage while ensuring compliance with industry standards like ISA-95 and IEC 62443. These systems help organizations maintain data integrity, improve accessibility, and ensure interoperability across IT and OT environments.
With the increasing complexity of industrial environments, such a platform plays a vital role in optimizing production efficiency, enabling predictive maintenance, and ensuring seamless communication between different industrial applications. By implementing a well-structured data management strategy, businesses can maximize the value of their industrial data.
We’ve written multiple articles and recorded multiple videos who go in much more depth:

This is not a technology problem alone
We have enough technology available. The vendors in our DataOps Vendor Database are ready to help you implement. But technology without cooperation is just expensive shelfware.
The real challenge is organisational: getting IT and OT to speak the same language, agreeing on who owns the data, building a team that understands both the shopfloor and the cloud. If your organisation operates in silos, your platform will end up fragmented too — that’s Conway’s Law in action.
That’s exactly why we built the ITOT.Academy — a 4-week live online course where IT and OT practitioners learn the frameworks, vocabulary, and cooperation models to push past “just a POC.” Built by practitioners, for practitioners. Short, to the point, and brutally real. Our first 40 students scored it 9 out of 10.
