Towards IT/OT Convergence that Works!

In today’s rapidly evolving industrial landscape, the convergence of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s a pressing reality. As industries strive for greater efficiency, agility, and innovation, bridging the gap between IT and OT has become a crucial step in driving digital transformation.

The Unified Namespace Explained

The Unified Namespace (UNS) is not a product you can buy off the shelf—it’s a design pattern. At its core, a UNS is a centralized data structure that organizes and contextualizes real-time data from across an entire business ecosystem. It brings together data from various sources, such as machines, sensors, ERP systems, and databases, and makes it available in context and real-time. Think of it as an aspirational state for how data should be structured within an industrial organization.

We share a passion for IT/OT Convergence

David

David Ariens

Starting as a Data Scientist, I rolled into the world of Industrial Digitalisation back in 2010. I got quickly passionate about how to involve the human factor into digital projects. I was the industrial digitalization director at BASF Antwerp until 2022. Today I’m leading Analytics For Industry. I’m focussing on IT/OT Convergence, designing the future operational data platform, cyber security, Artificial Intelligence and more related data topics.

Chemical engineer with a passion for IT, I’ve immersed myself in industrial digitalization. From OT in logistics, labs, and production to IT infrastructure, ERP, and middleware. Yet, it’s the human factor that has truly captivated me—exploring new and improved ways of working. Whenever possible, I seek opportunities to geek out in production. I too worked at BASF until 2022, today you can still find me in the chemical industry at Solvay.
